Making the Most of Church

Michael Williamson

Do you ever get asked … “How was your weekend?”

What do you normally say?

It’s a great opportunity to bring Jesus into the conversation, but one we often waste as we manage to describe everything except church! What if we entered that Monday conversation with an answer that opened the doorway for further conversation?

What if we said something like: “The weekend was great, and the best part was what happened at church.” And that will do … unless of course they ask for more information. And then the door is open …

e.g. We were reminded about how we’re forgiven and set free

e.g. The funniest thing happened … we heard the story of …

e.g. It was so good to be among people who care about me

e.g. I was completely weighed down, but now …

e.g. We presented this tiny baby to Jesus in Baptism and …

Talking about Church in an open, passionate, cheerful and real way, demonstrates that every week is a good week to gather.

Every week we deal in core matters of identity, life and death and the good news of the Gospel of Jesus. Every week we hear from God’s word and have it explained to us. Every week we thank God for who he is and who he has made us to be in Jesus. Every week we sing of what God has done. Every week we speak to God in prayer. Every week we share in fellowship together. Every week we get the

opportunity to serve one another. Every week people are pleased to see you.

Every week is a good week to speak about Church. Try praying and then telling others about it … you just never know where it might lead!
